20 DIFFERENT TYPES OF POEMS
Wassup everybody, how's life, if you say it's going good or great I'm happy for you guys. Mine is perfect too if you're wondering, so as I had promised I'm going to list some different types of poems for you guys, just a heads up the definitions of these poems are of my understanding so if you want a better definition I suggest checking another site. Ok on to the poems:
ABC: So a ABC poem consists of five lines in which a mood or feeling is created. Lines one through four are made up of phrases or clauses while the starting of each line is in alphabetical order. Line five is basically one sentence long and begins with any letter
ACROSTIC: Acrostic poems usually contain letters at the start of each line which usually forms a word or message when read in a sequence.
BALLAD: This poem tells a story in similarity to a folk tale or legend and often has a repeated refrain.
BALLADE: This poem has three stanzas of seven, eight or ten lines and a shorter final stanza of four or five each ending with the same one line refrain.
BIO: A poem telling about one self's life, personality traits and probably ambitions.
BLANK VERSE: This is written in unrhymed iambic pentameter and is often unobtrusive. The iambic pentameter form usually resembles the rhythm of speech.
BURLESQUE: This poem treats a serious subject as humor or ridiculously.
CONCRETE: This poem also known as shape poetry is an arrangement of words to form a specific shape upon the page. In most situations the shape is more important than the text itself.
ELEGY: This basically is a poem that reflects about a death or loss.
EPIGRAM: A short poem with a witty ending or pointed saying.
EPITAPH: This is another dark poem, it's a short statement about a deceased person.
FREE VERSE: This poem does not rhyme neither does it have a regular meter.
HAIKU: This is a poem originated from japan which has only three lines, with five syllables in the first, seven in the second and another five in the third.
LYRIC: This is a short expressive poem with a songlike quality that explores the emotions of the speaker and is narrated in first person.
LIMERICK:A five lined poem intended to be humorous, it has the rhyming scheme of AABBA.
NARRATIVE: This poem basically tells a story and can take many forms.
ODE: A short lyric poem that praises an individual or event.
PASTORAL: This one I just copied from google 😁😁, so a pastoral poem is one that idealize the country's life and the landscape they take place in.
QUATRAIN: This poem exists in many forms and is only one stanza which has four lines.
RHYME: This is pretty simple it's a poem in which the words at the end of each line rhymes, there can be multiple rhyming schemes.
